Pau loves breakfast as much as he loves cooking. He never goes out of the house without eating first. And he always eats a heavy breakfast meal!

Before my pregnancy, we usually eat breakfast together. However, my pregnancy hormones during the first trimester changed this norm. More often than not, he would be eating alone. It’s either I did not have the appetite yet or I did not like the smell of the food he prepared. Of course, if you read our previous blogs, you would now know that he tends to be sad or frustrated whenever I am not eating what he cooked. He is even more unhappy when he has to eat by himself. There are times that we would get into a discussion because of that. His reasoning is that we are the only two people living in our house. Why can’t we eat together? When I felt better with food, our problem was we were in a morning rush so that he would not be late in his office and I would be in my class on time. Sometimes, it would be me waking up later because I got no morning class.

When the quarantine started, I was on my second trimester. My eating habits improved already. And who’s happy? The husband! We can now eat together again during breakfast. One morning, while we were savoring the fried daing he prepared the night before, we talked about some plans. We are both itchy about going out of town. With the summer heat, we badly want to go to the beach! He loves water! I am not a beach person, but I want a change in scenery already.

Prior to our pregnancy, we made sure to travel once or twice within a year, whether domestically or internationally. We actually planned on bringing his mom outside the country this June 2020. But, with Fave coming up and the COVID-19 pandemic still lingering, all travel plans were cancelled. And this is where our sweet conversation while having this breakfast began. We start dreaming again, with Fave on board! We talk about the places we want to visit soon, as well as the things we will do. We both know that it will be different now with a baby, but we are so excited with the thought of being somewhere with Fave. We are so much looking forward to those plans!

While it is true that we should be content with what we have, we are also free to dream on and enjoy life. And taking pleasure in life is not just about being somewhere amazing or buying the latest trend. We may have planned about future trips, but the small talks we are having during breakfast are enough for now. We are enjoying them! There is no rush, simply taking the time to be with each other. Moments like these are treasures. One day, we will surely go back to these good times.

“I’ve decided that there’s nothing better to do than go ahead and have a good time and get the most we can out of life. That’s it—eat, drink, and make the most of your job. It’s God’s gift.”

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 (MSG)

If you are now bored staying in your houses, I encourage you to initiate conversations with your loved ones. Put your gadgets down, and be amazed by the things you may discover while having small talks. There will be a lot to talk about for sure!
